I created this cover design for the hilarious, fast paced surrealist art world novel by David Scott Hay.
The Author had a vision of the cover that included an abstracted version of the books main character –A Water Fountain in the Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA).
We did a number of rounds, ending on this cover using the engineering plans of an actual drinking fountain, with an abstracted icon like version overlaid on top. A few other directions are included in the slide show bellow for contrast.
It was a great experience working directly with the author through this process, translating their literary vision into a visual representation that attempts at encapsulating the essence of the book.
